Ginkgo Biloba Help Tinnitus
Can Ginkgo Biloba Help Your Tinnitus?
Can Ginkgo Biloba Extract (GBE) really help cure tinnitus? Thousands of people suffer from tinnitus, or ‘ringing in the ears’, and are desperately seeking relief from their condition. Ginkgo Biloba might just be the answer.
Ginkgo Biloba’s has been reported to have great benefits not just for tinnitus and hearing loss, but also for mental acuity, memory loss, early Alzheimer’s disease, therapy in stroke victims, retinal edema, depression in the elderly and asthma. However, before you start believing that Ginkgo is a miracle cure-all, you should be aware that previous studies have shown contradictory results of GBE treatment of tinnitus.
There is no widespread medical evidence to support the hypothesis that GBE has any effect on tinnitus. However, it is possible that GBE has an effect on some patients due to several reasons, including the diversity of the underlying causes of tinnitus. For instance, in some cases the underlying cause of tinnitus is restricted blood flow. In this case, gingko can help as it specifically improves blood circulation. In other cases the use of ginkgo has no effect whatsoever. The problem is that there is no objective method to measure the symptom, so the effectiveness of any treatment, including GBE, can only be made on an individual basis.
So what does all this mean ? The simple answer is that if you want to try GBE as a possible cure for your tinnitus, then you will need to experiment with the dosage to find out what’s best for your body weight and chemical balance. Ginkgo is usually available in standard formulations of 60 milligrams of 50:1, 24% standard concentration Ginkgo. Many tinnitus sufferers have reported success with taking just one capsule twice daily with meals. This is a good place to start, but depending on your weight, you may need to increase the dose. In any event, do not take any one day’s experience as a conclusion. It takes several months to zero in on the correct dosage and timing.
As far as the type of GBE that is most effective; many users report that a Ginkgo combination is more effective than Ginkgo alone. For instance, GNC Ginkgo Biloba Plus, adds Ginseng, Gotu Kola and Lecithin to the Ginkgo.
While Ginkgo is available without a prescription and is considered very safe if taken in normal dosages, like all other supplements, you should consult with you physician before beginning treatment.
