Research shows 339,573 veterans with tinnitus- related disabilities in 2005, up from 144,243 in 2000. Veterans with tinnitus were paid in excess of $418 million in 2005 as compared to $150 million in 2000.

- The total for veterans awarded compensation for disability involving tinnitus as of fiscal year 2006 surpassed 390,933.
- At this rate, by 2011 we will see 818,811 vets receiving compensation from the military for tinnitus, costing American taxpayers in excess of $1.1 billion.
